John P. McTighe received his Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work from New York University, and holds Masters degrees in both Clinical Social Work and Divinity. He is licensed for the practice of clinical social work in the State of New Jersey.
In addition to his private psychotherapy and consultation practice, he is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah, New Jersey. Previously, he worked as the Associate Director of Counseling, Health & Wellness at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey and in community and hospital-based outpatient mental health with adults, adolescents, and children.
Dr. McTighe has advanced training in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, as well as crisis intervention, disaster mental health, and clinical supervision. He is listed in the register of approved clinical social work supervisors by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. He has published on the topics of narrative, shared traumatic stress, and clinical supervision, and is a frequent presenter on these topics at professional conferences.
Working primarily from an Object Relations and Narrative perspective, he is experienced in the treatment of a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, relational problems, and trauma, especially chronic trauma sustained in childhood.
He has a particular interest in the integration of spirituality and psychotherapy, and welcomes the opportunity to work with people as they explore the role of spirituality in their daily living.
Dr. McTighe is fluent in Spanish and French, and has worked extensively with the Spanish-speaking community for over twenty years.
